Best practice... Climate Positivity with Nula Carbon
This is the decade that we need to make a change. We need to half our emissions by 2030. And this means that we need everyone to take action, from governments and corporations through to individuals.
At Nula, we take our inspiration from the incredible Christiana Figueres. For those who don't know who she is, she was one of the leading architects of the Paris Agreement (which was set up to strengthen the global response to climate change). But it's her eternal optimism and positive approach to climate action that we take inspiration from. In fact, it was one of the defining factors of Nula's tone and direction.
And when it comes to mental health, and in particular eco-anxiety, we believe that climate positivity is vital. A poll conducted by the American Psychological Association showed that nearly half of US adults under 35 reported stress about climate change affecting their lives. What's more, seven out of 10 adults said that they wished they could do more when to comes to climate change, but its difficult to know where to start (51%).
Enter Nula. We want to inspire you to be able to get up in the morning and think, "yes, I can do this". While it is important that we recognise and understand the negative consequences of climate change (and unfortunately, for most, they are unavoidable), it is equally vital that we spark imagination and creativity. And that comes with recognising our own agency to create change. As Mary Heglar put it: "The thing about climate is that you can either be overwhelmed by the complexity of the problem or fall in love with the creativity of the solutions."
So, here's the thing, if you are feeling worried or overwhelmed, that's normal. But if you can, remember that you can play a part in the solution. And you can start by offsetting your lifestyle with Nula. It won't change the world on its own but if we work together, it has the power to make a big difference. That's because if we all collectively reduce and offset our emissions, it sends a strong signal to the market, demanding governments and corporations to fall in line. And that is our best chance of creating change, are you ready to join us?
